How to Update Your Autofill Address on iPhone in 5 Steps (with Photos)

Since introducing autofill to iOS devices, there are a number of convenient ways Apple can now save users some time filling in their basic info. From their name to their address to their email to their phone number, Apple’s autofill feature is a quick and easy time-saver that keeps you from having to type out the same basic facts about yourself again and again.

However, it stops being convenient the second one of these things — phone number, address, email — changes. When this happens, how do you update your autofill address on iPhone?

Follow along with this simple guide to learn how.

Why Update Your Autofill Address on iPhone?

There are a couple of reasons why you might want to update your autofill address on iPhone, each one as valid as the last. Both are perfectly reasonable scenarios where you might want to know these steps detailed below.

For one, you simply might not live at that address anymore. When you move places, you no longer want Apple putting in that old address when making an online purchase or filling out a form. It’s such an inconvenience. (It doesn’t have to be, though. More on that to come.)

Alternatively, you might not have ever lived at the address Apple is using for your autofill information. If you don’t manually add in your address to your contact information, Apple’s operating system will discreetly search through emails, text messages, or significant map locations to pinpoint what it thinks your address is. Sometimes, this assumed address can be completely wrong. In this case, you’ll definitely need to change it so you don’t keep running into this issue.

Regardless of the reason for wanting to update your autofill address on iPhone, the basic truth remains the same: you need to know how to actually do it first.

Thankfully, the guide below — complete with photos! — will walk you through the necessary steps, which happen to be super quick and easy. Let’s jump right in!

How to Update Your Autofill Address on iPhone

Now, let’s go over the steps you need to know in order to update your autofill address on iPhone. This will only take a moment and shouldn’t be too difficult to follow along with whatsoever. However, there are still a number of photos you’ll be able to follow along with throughout this how-to if you need additional guidance. Also, as a note, we’re using an iPhone for the purpose of this demonstration. With that being said, the process should look more or less identical on an iPadOS device.

Follow along with these steps to update your autofill address.

Step 1: Open Contacts

Firstly, you’re going to want to open up your Contacts app.

You should find this on your home screen by default. However, if you’ve moved the app or inserted it into a folder, you can simply swipe down and type Contacts in the search bar. It should pop right up.

Tap it to open up the app.

Step 2: Tap Your Name

Once you are in the Contacts app, you’ll want to find your name. For most, it should be located at the very top of the list. If you can’t find it, you can also try searching your name within the app.

Once you’ve found it, tap it. (Alternatively, if you’re trying to update the autofill address for another contact, you can also tap their name).

Step 3: Tap Edit

Now that you’ve located your contact card within the Contacts app, you’re going to want to edit your information.

You should see the autofill address in your contact card, but you’ll notice that tapping it simply opens up the Maps app. That’s not how you update your autofill address on iPhone.

Instead, look at the top of the contact card and locate the Edit button. Tap this.

Step 4: Update Your Autofill Address

Next, after tapping Edit, scroll down to your address. You’ll see a number of options available to you. You can either delete the information in the contact card, add a new address below, or tap the information and edit it accordingly.

Whichever way you choose, add in your new or updated address in the designated space.

Step 5: Hit Done

After you update your autofill address on iPhone, you will simply scroll back up to the top of the contact card and hit the button that says Done. That’s all there is to it!

Next time you’re making an online purchase or filling out a digital form, your autofill address should now be displaying the correct information. If not, try deleting the old address in your contact card if you didn’t before.

Of course, with iPhones, there is usually more than one way to resolve an issue. In the following 1:38-minute tutorial, Trevor Nace will show you how you can change your autofill address through Safari.

Wrapping Up

Changing your autofill address is incredibly easy and it only takes a few minutes to update your information. Now, you won’t have to deal with the wrong address automatically filling in and wasting time deleting it! Your new (and correct!) information will autofill, saving you time and stress.
