How To Save Image Files From The Internet (Mac & PC)

For whatever purpose, you will find yourself wanting to save image files from the internet. There are a variety of ways to do this, and the steps may differ depending on your computer’s operating system.

In this post, we’re covering some of the most common ways to save images from websites and social media. You’ll learn to save images that you want whether you’re using a Mac or PC.

Save Image Files On Mac

Google Images (Using Safari)

Method 1

  1. Go to Google Images.
  2. Type the subject that you want to search.
  3. Right-click on an image.
  4. Select and click “Save image as…”
  5. Provide a name for the file (Or leave the filename as is)
  6. Choose a destination folder for your saved file (Optional)
  7. Hit the Save button.

Method 2

  1. Go to Google Images.
  2. Type the subject that you want to search.
  3. Press the Control key on your keyboard and click the image once.
  4. When the shortcut menu pops up, select and click “Save image as…”
  5. Provide a name for the file (Or leave the filename as is)
  6. Choose a destination folder for your saved file (Optional)
  7. Hit the Save button.

Method 3

  1. Go to Google Images.
  2. Type the subject that you want to search.
  3. Click on an image.
  4. Move your open window to see the desktop.
  5. Drag the image onto your desktop.

Website Pages

  1. Right-click on the image that you want to save on your computer.
  2. Select and click “Save image as…”
  3. Provide a name for the file (or leave the filename as is)
  4. Choose a destination folder for your saved file (Optional)
  5. Hit the Save button.

Saving Protected Images On Webpages

You can do this when an image on a website cannot be saved by doing right-click and selecting “Save image as…”

  1. Visit the webpage with the image that you want to save.
  2. Click “Cmd Opt I” or Right-click and select “Inspect” to open the Developer Tools.
  3. Find and copy the URL of the image.
  4. Paste the URL on a new tab or window.
  5. Right-click and select “Save image as…”

Instagram

  1. Visit the Instagram page where you want to save an image.
  2. Click on the image.
  3. Refresh the page (Hit F5) to go to the permalink.
  4. Right-click on the image and select “Inspect”
  5. Find the URL of the image and open on a different window.
  6. Right-click on the new image you have opened and select “Click save as…”

  1. Click on the image that you want to save.
  2. Right-click and select “Open link in new tab.”
  3. Once the image opens on a new tab, right-click and select “Save image as…”
  4. Hit Save.

Google Images
